Support for Chamber’s Closed to Crime Initiative

Mr. Claude Rattray (1st Vice President- Credit Union) presents the cheque to Mr. Winston Lawson (President

The Manchester Co-operative Credit Union (1977) Ltd. recently donated $150,000 to the Closed to Crime Initiative spearheaded by the Manchester Chamber of Commerce.
The Credit Union sees the importance of such an initiative in helping to curb crime in the parish of Manchester. The Closed to Crime Initiative was spawned out of the concern of Chamber members who perceived a problem with the rising crime rate throughout the parish.
The project represents creativity and a bold move by the members. The Credit Union is delighted to be associated with this project and wishes to encourage other companies to come on board. The benefits to be gained from such a project will be well worth the investment. To date the programme has achieved the following:

-    Purchase of several motor vehicles through CTCI for the Police Force
-    The Police also benefited from an upgraded Investigative Unit and…
-    Closed Circuit Cameras which should be fully installed by the end of 2008. The Government has shown keen interest in this initiative and has opted to donate $7 million towards purchasing cameras. The Chamber is seeking an additional $6 million to fully complete this phase of the project.

The closed circuit cameras are intended to aid the intelligence unit in monitoring movement especially in the town of Mandeville.

As the project unfolds the Credit Union will continue to offer its support in whatever way it can and anxiously await the outcome of this magnificent venture.
