Launch of 2005 Essay Competition
The Manchester Co-operative Credit Union (1977) Limited, as part of its focus on youth, continues to offer avenues through which the youth in the parish of Manchester can learn and develop skills while at the same time become enlightened on its role and function as a Credit Union.
In this regard, the Annual Essay Competition was launched on March 1, 2005 targeting students at the primary level. The age group for the competition is 10-12 years with the students presenting essays on this year’s topic, “Credit Unions helping to build a better Jamaica.” The Students are required to write within a limit of 500 words.
The competition will run until May 27, 2005 with prizes being awarded to the 1st and 2nd place winners. These prizes include Share Saving Gift Certificates valued at $8,000.00 and $4,000.00 respectively. Gift Certificates will also be awarded to the teachers who assisted these students. A cash prize will be awarded to the winning school as well as the Claude Rattray Trophy.
Past winners include students from Porus Primary, McIntosh Primary, and Kendal All Age Schools. These and other schools have given their support over the years and another successful staging of the essay competition is anticipated.
