2006 Debating Competition

Mr. Lenroy Allen, Accounts Manager presents the Championship Trophy to the Holmwood Technical High School Team.

The Annual Debating Competition was launched at the Golf View Hotel on October 4, 2006 with the first round of matches being played. A total of six schools participated namely Manchester High, Spalding High, May Day High, Decarteret College, Knox College and Holmwood Technical High.

The competition proceeded throughout the month with the playing of the second and semi-final rounds. The final match was held on November 2, 2006 between Holmwood Technical High and Decarteret College. Holmwood moved on to represent Manchester at the League’s National Debating Challenge.

Prizes

Debate Finals Best New SpeakerIt was a keenly contested match played between Holmwood Technical High and Decarteret College. In the end, Holmwood Technical emerged winners of the competition and walked away with the Mavis Campbell Trophy, a school prize of $10,000.00 cash and cash prizes for each team member and coach. The runner up team, DeCarteret College, received a plaque and prizes for each team member and coach. All participants in the competition received certificates of participation and $500 towards a youth account at the Credit Union.

This brought the curtains down on another successful debating competition stage by the Credit Union. Based on the response to this initiative, debating will continue to be a prominent fixture in the Credit Union’s youth involvement activities throughout the Parish.
