2007 Debating Competition


The Annual Debating Competition was launched at the Mandeville Hotel on October 11, 2007 with the first round of matches being played. A total of seven schools participated namely Belair High, Bishop Gibson High, Spalding High, Porus High, DeCarteret College, Knox College and Holmwood Technical High.

The competition proceeded throughout the month with the playing of the semi-final round. The final match was held on November 12, 2007 between DeCarteret College and Belair High. The awards ceremony was held after the match was played.

2007 Debating Competition

It was an exciting match. At the end, DeCarteret College emerged winners of the competition and walked away with the Mavis Campbell Trophy, a school prize of $11,000.00 cash and cash prizes for each team member and coach. The runner up team, Belair High, received a plaque and prizes for each team member and coach. All participants in the competition received certificates of participation and $650 towards a youth account at the Credit Union.2007 Debating Comeptition

This brought the curtains down on another successful debating competition staged by the Credit Union. Based on the level of enthusiasm displayed by the youth and teachers involved, debating will continue to be a prominent event in the Credit Union’s youth involvement activities throughout the Parish.
